WHAT IS BOTOX®?

This muscle-relaxing protein is produced by Clostridium botulinum. In its purified form, botulinum is a neurotoxin because it blocks the nerve signals that cause your facial muscles to contract. The repeated muscle contractions give rise to the facial lines and wrinkles that can age you prematurely.

When small amounts of Botox are injected into the facial muscles, the muscle will eventually paralyze. When the muscles relax, the wrinkles disappear.

Treatment is most effective on:

  • "Crow's feet" or lines around the eyes,

  • Forehead lines

  • Deep frown lines between the eyes.

Treatment can also be used for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), chronic migraines, and TMJ.

WHAT IS DERMAL FILLER?

FILLER.jpg

Where botox is used to treat "movement" areas, dermal filler is used for "static" lines.

Dermal filler is a gel-like substance that is injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines and soften creases, or enhance facial contours.

One type of filler is made of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a naturally occurring substance that is already found in your skin. It helps keep skin plump and hydrated. This type of filler is typically soft and gel-like. The results are temporary, lasting 6 to 12 months, or longer before the body gradually and naturally absorbs the particles. Most HA fillers are infused with lidocaine to help minimize discomfort during and after treatment. HA fillers will be used in our practice.

Common issues dermal fillers can help to address:

  • Smooth out lines around the nose and mouth (marionette lines, smile lines, etc)

  • Enhance or restore volume to sunken cheeks or temples

  • Plump and enhance the lips

  • Diminish vertical lip lines

  • Smooth out a chin crease

  • Improve symmetry among facial features
